What does The Ball offer you?

A fantastic and intense 3 day social experience that has a unique atmosphere generated by our over 700 enthusiastic attendees.

A warm welcome - Special attention is given to new attendees, with a meet and greet session at the beginning of the weekend, together with a firm emphasis on customer satisfaction that is provided by the rest of the SFB team.

Star Guests - The opportunity to see your favourite stars from Sci-fi Film and TV and ask them questions during their talks. You can also get up close, as a professional photography service is available through out the weekend along with autograph sessions. Guests are also free to enjoy the fun and are invited to come along and party.

Entertainment - Volunteer to take part our big-screen games GeekBusters and Fantasy Fortunes or simply sit back and enjoy the entertainments provided by our crew. Alternatively you can flex your more creative and cerebral muscles and enter the competitions and quizzes offered throughout the weekend.

Technical wizardry - Television production quality equipment is used in order to bring you an audio visual experience that is second to none: the main stage has 5 full size projection screens and high-standard production equipment is used to record the whole event. Several large plasma screens are dotted around the hotel providing a direct feed of main hall events throughout the hotel.

Fun and Food - Opportunities for Partying abound! Start your weekend with a bang with the official dancers night out at the Friday night disco, then dine in real style on Saturday at our formal and fabulous full 3-course black-tie or fancy dress Banquet with late-night cabaret and dancing until 2am and finally on Sunday sing to your hearts content at the Karaoke-Disco until midnight. The fun just doesn't stop.

SFBall DVD - all of the guest talks from both Saturday and Sunday, the opening and closing ceremonies, scenes of the banquet and fancy dress competition and all of the late night cabaret - plus a few extra special touches captured on the roaming cameras. Relive your weekend, spot yourself on the dance floor and see the all the things that you missed first time around!

Safari theme - How do we make sure that no SFB Events convention is the ever same? Easy! Every year we spice things up by thinking up a theme for Friday and Saturday nights. For those of you who enjoy assembling fancy dress, finding costumes or even just accessorising your party gear the themes add that extra bit of fun to the weekend.

This year we explode into action with Glam Rock Friday. This is your opportunity to get out your platforms, pull on your spandex and tease out that afro and get down to the hottest hits from the 70's. Be prepared to strut your stuff and show off your finest disco moves as for one night only SFB gets its groove on.

On Saturday we pull out the blunderbuss, pop on the pith helmet and put on our khaki shorts, as we get ready to go on safari. So watch your step and be prepared to hack your way through luscious undergrowth as you enter the main hall, stopping off at the bar to fill up your canteen and avoiding the big game hiding in the bush.

You can dress up just for fun or see if you can impress the celebrity judges by entering the fancy dress competition that takes place after the banquet. Whatever you decide, we have cameras on hand to record your sartorial elegance and you never know, you might even make it on to the DVD.
