Update Sheet

This page should tell you all need to know about how to get here and what sort of things to expect on arrival. If you have never been to one of our conventions before, don’t worry. The general idea is to make friends, enjoy the entertainment, and to have some serious fun.

If you have any problems, do not hesitate to contact any of the registration staff, who can be found at the registration desk.

Venue Change

Reunion is moving to the Quality Hotel, Walsall!

The unexpected and sudden sale of the Leofric Hotel in Coventry has forced us to find a new home for the September event. The SFB Events directors are pleased to confirm that the Quality Hotel in Walsall www.hotels-walsall.com will be hosting this year’s event and that the whole SFB Events team are looking forward to delivering another high quality show at this new venue.

IMPORTANT Hotel Booking information:

If you have booked your accommodation through SFB Events then your reservation has been transferred to the new venue at the same rate. If you have made alternative arrangements and would like accommodation at the new venue, then please contact Paul Smith as additional rooms are currently available.

Convention Badges

All attendees are issued with a badge so that we can identify the different types of visitor. You should have received your badge by post. If you have not got a badge you must obtain one from the registration desk on arrival.

Badges should be worn at all times, failure to do so will result in the person concerned being asked to leave the premises. If you lose your badge, please notify the registration team immediately so that a replacement can be issued at a cost of £3. Please note that without a displayed badge, security are authorised to remove you from the premises. Your co-operation is appreciated.

Registration

The Reunion registration desk is located through the conferencing entrance of the hotel; this can be found to the left of the hotel reception entrance. Open: Friday 1pm until 7pm, Saturday 10am until 5pm, Sunday 10am until 3pm. On arrival at the hotel proceed to the registration desk and collect your convention pack. The pack contains your convention booklet and a running schedule. Check the update board frequently for any changes to the programme.

Hotel Room Registration

If you are booked in to stay at the hotel give your name to the hotel reception desk. Check to make sure the hotel has your correct details and duration of stay. They will require a credit card swipe, cheque or cash payment. You are expected to pay your hotel bill before departure. Please do not attempt to pay event crew - we don’t want your hotel money!

Unless otherwise agreed with the hotel, check-in time is from 2pm. Rooms must be vacated by 11am on day of departure. The hotel porters will store luggage on request until your departure time.

Getting to the Quality Hotel Walsall

By Car

Leave the M6 at J10 and follow signs for Walsall Hotel or Hotel (2nd exit when North Bound, 4th exit when South Bound). The hotel is just five minutes from Walsall railway station. It is also situated just 30 minutes from Birmingham International Airport.

By Public Transport

The nearest Coach and Rail Stations are in Walsall, you may have to change at Birmingham New Street. To get to the hotel from Walsall you can take a taxi or bus, the hotel recommends Rose Hill Taxis 01902 60 60 90 who will charge £7 each way, or you can catch a bus for £1.50 on route 529 which will drop you off at the end of the hotel access road.

Car Parking

The hotel offers 200 FREE car parking spaces; you may need to collect a token from the hotel reception when you leave.

Refreshments

There will be light snacks and regular restaurant menu available during the weekend.

Breakfast will be served in the restaurant between 7.30am and 10am.

The Bar will be open during the day in the Dealers Room and during the evening in the Main Hall.

Wi-Fi Access

The hotel has Wi-Fi access throughout. You can purchase wifi4real® internet access units from reception. £5 for 1 hr, £9 for 24hrs & £15 for 72hrs.

Leisure Facilities

The hotel has a fitness suite, use of which is included for all hotel residents. Facilities include a swimming pool, small gym with weights & aerobic equipment and a sauna.

Seating

Tables at the front of the auditorium are reserved for disabled guests, stewards, and Alumni ticket holders (we will check!).

Photography

The video recording of guest talks is not permitted, and this includes devices such as mobile phones with camera facilities. Still photography is allowed, but flash photography should be limited to the beginning and end of the guest talks to minimise disruption.

Autograph Signings

Autograph signings will take place on both Saturday and Sunday. Check your schedule for the exact timings. Your convention badge will indicate which signing day you have been allocated.

Photo Sessions

On both Saturday and Sunday there will an opportunity to have your photo taken with the stars. Tickets are strictly limited and sold on a first come first served basis. Photos will be signed by the relevant guest.

Opening Hours

The convention opens at 1pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday and Sunday, closing officially at midnight on Sunday.

Friday Night

On Friday night we begin the evening with the opening ceremony. This will be followed by a series of party games for as many people as possible. Following that is the first in our series of nightly disco parties. Alumni ticket holders are invited to the exclusive cocktail party.

Saturday Night

On Saturday evening we have the Fancy dress competition. We encourage contestants to bring their costume of choice and join in the parade. Fabulous prizes abound! The party for this evening has a ‘World of Hanna Barbera’ theme.

Sunday Night

Before the party on Sunday night, we must sadly say goodbye to our guests with the closing ceremony. Our guests will be handing out prizes for the winners of the fiction, art and fancy dress competitions. The event will officially close when the last record is played at the disco.

Art and Fiction Competitions

We will be running both the art and fiction competitions so get your pens and paintbrushes out and get creating. Hand your entries into Registration as soon as you arrive. Ensure that all your entries have your name and registration number firmly attached.

Nominated Charity and 'Find the Fett'

Reunion supports the Teenage Cancer Trust, which is devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer. All profits from the charity auction and other special events over the weekend will be donated to this valuable local resource. ‘Find the Fett’ is used to denote when money is raised for Jeremy Bullochs nominated charity “Cancer Research”.

What should I bring with me?

For those of you who can’t decide what to bring – here is a short list of the essentials:

  ◊  A fabulous costume for Saturday night
  ◊  An eye for a bargain for the Charity auction and Dealers room
  ◊  A very strong will to party!
and…
  ◊  A change of clothes and some ready cash wouldn’t go amiss.
